Our call and Vision

Call

The House of Brethren Gospel Christian Church Call reflects the core of our purpose, sharing who we seek to be in “such a time as this” Esther 4:14.

  • Deep Spirituality
  • Bold Discipleship
  • Daring Justice

Vision

Our desire is to help the individual to discover, develop, and deploy. The gifts that God has placed within them, so they can be maximally effective in what God has called them to do.
Raising Leaders.
Shaping Visions, and influencing society for Christ.
Changing lives.
Empowering people.
Imparting the world with the word of God.
Preparing people for the second coming of Christ.

Our mandate is to ensure you make Heaven. To take as many with you as possible. To live a life of Holiness. To preach the gospel throughout the world. Our vision is to play our part in seeing as many people as possible know God, find family, discover their God given purpose and make an eternal difference with their lives. A church with divine mandate to raise disciples for Christ who maintain a good relationship with God, who are heavenly bound and earthly blessed. It is our desire to nurture people to spiritual maturity. We have a mandate from God to build men and women up in the Christian faith, equipping them with the word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit, so they can be maximally effective in what God has called them to do. Everyone has a destiny, a destiny already established in the mind of God. And we are persuaded that the greatest contentment in life comes when we discover our destiny. Disciples need to discover, develop, and deploy the gifts; treasures and potentials that God has given them for His own glory.

How Are We Set To Achieve These?

Worship: True worship in the house of God among members.
Fellowship: Developing long-term friendships and relationships, provision of unique family environment and family ties strengthened.
Discipleship: Converts into true disciples.
Services: Members are dedicated serving the Lord with their gifts and profiting from them.
Witnesses: Members are true witnesses and committed to their various roles and responsibilities more than ever to the church. This will in turn lead to the unreached in our immediate communities becoming reached and assimilated into the body of Christ. To create a Christ-centered church, committed reaching the lost and developing them into New Testament believers. From the beginning, we believe it was always God’s intention to commune with us in strength and love. But because of our sin, we were separated from him, and so God sent his son Jesus Christ to reconcile us to himself. It is our joy to be used by God to go out into the world and invite people to know him, equip them to follow him and inspire them to transform the world with him!
Equip: The Christian life is always easy, but we believe that it is the life most worth living. So, we want to equip followers of Jesus to live wholeheartedly for him no matter what challenges may come.
Transform: The gospel is good news for us, but also for the places we live, study and work. We want to inspire people be a living testimony of God’s love, knowledge and power in order to go out and transform the world.

Our Mission Statement

The mission of the church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

About the scriptures: We believe that the gospel of Christ is the hope of the world, and it is the heart of the church to bring that hope to others. This belief is the foundation of our church and informs all we preach, teach, and practice. The entire Scripture, both Old and New Testament, are written by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit 2 Tim. 3:16-17. Christian teachings and the Christian attitudes are such as are established in the Holy Bible, 2 Tim. 3:10-15; 2 Peter 1:21; John 17:17; Ps. 119:105. The Holy Bible reveals the will of God and His Law remains unchangeable. Deut. 4: 22; Rev. 22: 18, 19; Matt. 24: 34 – 38.

About God: There is only one true God, The Father, God The Son and God The Holy Spirit (Deut 6: 4; Mk 12: 29) God is the Creator of all things Gen. 1: 1; Ps. 86: 9 – 10; Is. 43: 7, 10-11; John 1: 1 – 3 and that every creature receives life from Him, John 5: 26. Jesus Christ is the Son of God; Who took away our sins, and the Saviour of the world; that Jesus is God and was born by Mary the Virgin. He is God revealed in the flesh. Through Him all things were created. John 1:1-14; John 14:9; Matt. 1:18-25, Is 9:6; Is 53:5-6. We believe in His death on the Cross and resurrection, by which He brought redemption, Is. 53:4-10; I Pet. 2:24; John 10:11; Gal. 3:13, Matt. 20:28; I Cor. 15:3; Rom. 4:25; 2 Cor. 5:14; Heb 2:9; Heb 9:26.
The Holy Spirit is the third Person. He has the power, the glory with God the Father and God the Son, John 14: 16 – 17; John 15: 26; Matt. 3: 16; Acts 13: 24. He speaks and teaches men bears witness in us, Acts 16: 6 – 7; performs the work of regeneration in man, John 3: 5 – 6; performs the work of sanctification in the born again souls, John 16: 8; Eph 1:17 – 19; 2 Thess 2: 13; I Cor. 6: 11, endows believers with gifts, 1 Cor 12: 7 and empowers one in the Lord Acts 1:8.
About man: God made man ruler over all the other things He created – Gen 1: 27, God created man in His own image and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul, Gen 2: 7, that man is of three parts, namely spirit, soul and body, that man is God’s ambassador on earth, Gen. 1: 26 – 28 and that God has elevated man more than the other creatures upon the earth.

About baptism: That water baptism is by immersion. We do not baptise infants, as they are not at the age of accountability; rather children are dedicated to the Lord, 1 Sam 1: 22. We baptise in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Matt. 28:19. Every saved soul automatically qualifies for Water Baptism, Acts 8: 29 – 39. It is an outward sign, an example of true repentance, Acts 2: 38. Rom 6: 1 – 23.

About prayers: We must pray only by the Name of JESUS, John 16: 23; We must pray in faith, our prayer shall be accepted and powerful before God, James 1: 6 – 8; Heb 11: 6, Much trouble and danger are encountered in the absence of prayer, Zeph 1: 4; Dan 9: 1 – 14; and pray without ceasing Col. 4: 2; I Thess 5: 17; Luke 18: 1.

About authority: All Christians are to obey the laws of the country, the government and authority. We should honour our parents and elders. I Peter 2: 13 – 14; Rom 13: 1 – 5; Eph 6: 1 – 3. Rebellion against church Ministers is against the Will of God. Those who rebelled against Moses did not escape unpunished, Numb 12: 1 – 10; Numb 16: 1 – 4, 32. The Bible teaches that we should obey our spiritual leaders and submit to them, Heb 13: 17; Joshua 1: 16 – 18.

About giving: Regular payment of tithe and offering is obligatory because it is God’s command. It is God’s way of providing for the ministers in the Church. The ministers and other church employees are paid their food, allowance through tithe. The offering is used to cater for the needy in the Church. Tithe and Offering must be paid on every income. Examples: salary, profit from business transaction and gifts, etc. Mal 3: 8 – 12; Gen 14: 19 – 20; Numb 18: 20 – 21; Deut 26: 12 – 13; Lev. 27: 30; Heb. 7: 2 – 5; I Cor 16: 2; Matt. 23: 23. The tithe is exclusively for the minister’s welfare.
About prophecy: We can be given the gift of prophecy by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, I Cor. 14: 29. Despise not prophesying, I Thess 5:20 but any prophecy that does not from God is rejected.

About discipline: Whatever is not Bible teaching should be ignored entirely by all members. If there be found any member obeying these teachings he may be disciplined privately, but if any backslider would not admit discipline and restitute his way, he may be disciplined openly as it is written in Matt 18: 15-18, so that truth might be established by the witness of two or three according to the Word of God. Rebuke those who have sinned so others may also be fear, I Tim. 5: 20; I Cor. 5:1-13; 2 Cor. 2: 6 – 11; Heb 12: 5 – 12. Divorce is permissible only when a spouse commits adultery, Matt. 5: 31 – 32; Mark 10: 11 – 12; Rom. 7: 2 – 3; but God really hates divorce Mal. 2: 13 – 16; Matt. 19: 4 – 9.

About Holy Communion: Our Lord Jesus Christ instituted the Holy Communion or the Lord’s Supper shortly before His death. He commanded all Christians to gather together regularly to share the bread and wine until He comes back again, Luke 22: 17 – 20; Matt. 26: 26 – 29; I Cor. 11: 23 – 30

About death & resurrection: Anyone who sleeps in the Lord is with Christ already, Phil. 1: 21 – 23. Paul said that it is better to come out of this flesh and be with the Lord forever in our Heavenly home as there is hope of being with our Lord, even in death, I Thess. 4:13 – 18. Therefore, we are holy people to the Lord, Deut 14: 2
We experience daily the resurrection of the Spirit, all the born-again souls who are passed from death to life, Eph. 6: 14; Rom 6: 11; there is resurrection of the body, Jesus taught us plainly that the buried body will be raised up at the last day. Apostle Paul also explained this in Acts 24: 15; I Cor. 15: 22, 42 – 44; Phil. 3: 21. Only those who belong to Jesus, whose names are found in the Lamb’s Book of Life, will be at the resurrection but sinners shall resurrect in hell – Rev. 20: 4 – 5; John 5: 28 – 29; Rev. 20: 12 – 15.
About the Second Coming: The Second coming of Jesus Christ will be in physical form and will be visible to all in like manner as He was seen ascending to heaven Acts 1: 9 – 11; John 14: 3. His return will be in two stages: A. Christ’s return in the sky. The Saints will be caught up to meet Him in the sky I Thess. 4: 15 – 17; I Cor. 15: 51 – 52.

His return to the earth: He will return to the earth with the saints to judge the sinners and the ungodly Rev. 19: 19 – 21; 2 Thess 1: 7 – 10; Jude 14 -15. The time between His coming to receive the saints into heaven and His coming to set up His Kingdom for one thousand years, Rev. 20: 1 – 6; Rev. 2: 26 – 27, which is entirely different from any kingdom ever set on earth. The Kingdom will be peace all over Is 65: 18 – 20. There will be no death Is. 65: 18 – 20. There will be no poverty Micah 4: 4; Is. 65: 21 – 23; Christ is the only king in the Kingdom, Dan. 2: 44 – 45; Dan. 7: 13. At this time millennium, satan will be chained, Rev. 20: 2-3, and it will be the time of peace and blessing to mankind.
God’s Mandate for all: It is our goal to make heaven. It is our goal to take as many people as possible with us. In order to accomplish our goals, holiness should be our lifestyle. In order to take as many people with us as possible, we should plant churches within five minutes’ walk or driving distance in every city and town in both developed and developing countries. We will pursue these objectives until every Nation in the World is reached for Jesus Christ Our Lord.

Statement of Faith.

“God is Holy Mystery, beyond complete knowledge, above perfect description. Nothing exists that does not find its source in God.”

The Bible (God Spoke To Man): The Bible is God’s Word to all people. Scripture is the authoritative Word of God. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because it was inspired by God, the Bible is truth without any mixture of error and is completely relevant to our daily lives, Psalms 119:11, 89, 105; Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 22:29; John 17:17; Romans 15:4; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; Hebrews 1:1-2; 4:12; 1 Peter 1:25.

The Trinity (Three In One God): There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. He exists as one substance in three persons, and these three are co-equal and co-eternal. Although each member of the Trinity serves different functions, each possess equal power and authority, Genesis 1:26; Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 40:13; Matthew 28:19; Mark 1:9-11; Luke 1:35; John 5:21-23; 1 Corinthians 8:6; 2 Corinthians 13:14.
THE FATHER: (GOD IS GREAT, GOD IS GOOD, GOD IS HOLY): God is great, He all powerful, all knows, ever present, unchangeable, completely worthy of our trust, and above all Holy. God is good: He is loving, compassionate, merciful, gracious, and faithful to His people and His promises, Numbers 23:19; Leviticus 19:2; Psalm 11:4-6; Malachi 3:6; John 3:16; Acts 17:28; Romans 3:3-4.
The Son (God Became Man): Jesus Christ is God the Son, the second person of the Trinity who is completely human, and at the same time completely God. He was born of a virgin, lived a perfect and sinless life (the only man ever to do so), performed miracles, died on the cross for mankind, and atoned for our sins through the shedding of His blood. He rose from the dead on the third day, thus defeating death in His resurrection so that we could have eternal life. He ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will return again in power and glory, Isaiah 7:14; 9:6; Matthew 1:18-25; 3:17; 14:33; 16:16; 28:5-6; 24:46-47; Luke 1:35; John 1:14; 11:25-27; 17:1-5; Acts 1:9; 2:22-24; Romans 1:3-4; 8:1-3; 2 Corinthians 5:19-21; Colossians 1:15; 2:9; 1 Timothy 2:5-6; 3:16.
The Holy Spirit (God Is Always Present): The Holy Spirit convicts people of their sin and comes to dwell within every believer at the point of salvation. His presence assures us of our relationship with Christ. He guides believers into all truth and exalts Christ. He comforts us, gives us spiritual gifts, comes on us in power, and makes us more like Christ, Genesis 1:2; Psalms 51:11; 139:7; Joel 2:28-32; Luke 12:12; John 16:7-14; Acts 1:8; 2:1-4; Romans 8:9-11, 14-16, 26-27; Ephesians 1:13-14.
Man (God’s Image Bearer): Man is made in the image of God and was created good and upright. As the supreme object of God’s creation, man was fashioned to have a relationship with God, but became separated in that relationship through willful disobedience. As a result, man cannot attain a right relationship with God through his own effort. Every human personality is uniquely created, possesses dignity, and is worthy of love and respect. Man’s only hope of salvation however, is in Jesus Christ the Son of God, Genesis 1:26-27; 2:7, 18-22; 3:1-7; Psalms 8:3-6; Acts 17:26-27; Romans 3:23; 5:12; 1 Corinthians 15:21-22; Colossians 1:21-22.
Salvation (God’s Only Way): The blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross of Calvary, provides the only way of salvation. Jesus allowed Himself to be punished for both our sinfulness and our sins. This sacrifice enables all who believe to be free from the penalty of sin, which is eternal death. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, who is the only way for bringing people back into a right relationship with God. Salvation occurs when people place their faith in His death, burial, and resurrection. Salvation is a gift from God, and it cannot be earned or lost through our own human effort, Isaiah 53:5-6; Matthew 1:21; 27:22-28:6; Luke 2:28-32; John 1:29; 3:16, 36; 5:24; Acts 4:12; 16:30-31; Romans 1:16-17; 3:23-25; 5:8-10; 1 Corinthians 1:18; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 2:20; Ephesians 2:8-9; Hebrews 9:22; I John 1:7; Revelation 1:5; 5:9.
Repentance (Man’s Only Way): Repentance is the commitment to turn away from sin and to follow Christ, which allows us to receive His salvation and to be regenerated by the Holy Spirit. For anyone to know God, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential. Thus, through repentance we receive forgiveness of sins and appropriate salvation, Isaiah 55:7; Acts 2:21, 3:19; 17:29-31; Romans 10:9-10; Titus 3:5; I John 1:9.
Regeneration (Man’s New Birth): Jesus Christ dwells in all believers, and Christians are people who have invited Jesus Christ to come and live inside them by His Holy Spirit. They relinquish the authority of their lives over to Him thus making Jesus the Lord of their life as well as Savior. They put their trust in what Jesus accomplished for them when He died, was buried, and rose again from the dead, John 1:12; 14:17, 23; 20:22; Romans 8:11; 1 Corinthians 6:19; Titus 3:5; Revelation 3:20.
Sanctification (Man’s Process): Sanctification is the ongoing process of yielding to God’s Word and His Spirit in order to complete the development of Christ’s character in us. It is through the present ministry of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God that the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life, 1 Thessalonians 4:3, 5:23; 2 Corinthians 3:18; 6:14-18; Romans 8:29; 12:1-2; Galatians 5:22; Hebrews 2:11.
Baptism in the Holy Spirit (Man’s Empowerment): Baptism in the Holy Spirit is the promise of the Father. He was sent by Jesus after His Ascension to empower the Church to preach the Gospel and advance God’s Kingdom throughout the earth, Joel 2:28-29; Matthew 3:11; Luke 11:13; Acts 1:5,2:1-4, 17, 38-39, 8:14-17, 10:38, 44-47, 11:15-17, 19:1-6; Romans 15:13; Ephesians 1:13.
The Gifts of the Holy Spirit (The Church’s Upbuilding): The Holy Spirit is manifested through a variety of spiritual gifts to build and sanctify the church, demonstrate the validity of the resurrection, and confirm the power of the Gospel. The Bible’s list of these gifts is not necessarily exhaustive, and the gifts may occur in various combinations. All believers are encouraged to earnestly desire the manifestation of the gifts in their lives. These gifts always operate in harmony with the Scriptures and should never be used in violation of Biblical parameters, Hebrews 2:4; Romans 1:11, 12:4-8; I Timothy 4:14; II Timothy 1:6-7; I Corinthians 12:1-11, 14:1-5; I Peter 4:10.
The Church (God’s Design for Community): The church is a local community of believers unified through faith in Christ. It is the Body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit, with divine appointments for the fulfillment of Jesus’ Great Commission. It is committed to the teachings of Christ, to obeying all of His commands, and it seeks to bring the gospel to the world. Every person who is born of the Spirit is an integral part of the church as a member of the body of believers. The Church works together in love and unity, intent on the ultimate purpose of glorifying our Lord Jesus Christ, Matthew 16:18; John 17: 20-23; Acts 2:41-47; 14:23; 16:5; 20:28; 1 Corinthians 7:17; 9:13-14; Ephesians 1:22-23; 3:10-12; 5:22-32; Colossians 1:18; 3:15; Hebrews 12:23; 1 Peter 5:1-4.
Two Sacraments: Water Baptism, following faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the new convert is commanded by the Word of God to be baptized in water in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; 8:12, 36-38; 10:47-48.

The Lord’s Supper: A unique time of communion in the presence of God when the elements of bread and grape juice (the Body and Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ) are taken in remembrance of Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross, Matthew 26:26-29; I Corinthians 10:16, 11:23-25.
Healing of the Sick: Healing of the sick is illustrated in the life and ministry of Jesus, and included in the commission of Jesus to His disciples. It is given as a sign, which is to follow believers. It is also a part of Jesus’ work on the Cross and one of the gifts of the Spirit, Psalm 103:2-3; Isaiah 53:4-5; Matthew 8:16-17; Mark 16:17-18; Acts 8:6-7; James 5:14-16; I Corinthians 12:9, 28.
God’s Will for Provision: It is the Father’s will for believers to become whole, healthy and successful in all areas of life. Jesus came that we might have life and life more abundantly. But because of the fall, many may not receive the full benefits of God’s will while on Earth. That fact, though, should never prevent all believers from seeking the full benefits of Christ’s provision in order to better serve others.
Spiritual: Psalm 103:2-4; Isaiah 53:4-5; John 3:3-11; II Corinthians 5:17-21; Romans 10:9-10; I Peter 2:24.
Mental And Emotional: Psalm 103:2-4; Isaiah 26:3; Isaiah 53:4-5; Romans 12:2; Philippians 4:7-8; II Timothy 1:7; I Peter 2:24.
Physical: Psalm 103:2-4; Isaiah 53:4-5; Matthew 8:17; I Peter 2:24.

Eternity: Man was created to exist forever. He will either exist eternally in union with God through forgiveness and salvation or separated from God because of sin. To be eternally in union with God is eternal life or heaven. To be eternally separated from Him is eternal death or hell. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence, John 3:16, 36; Romans 6:23; 1 John 2:25; 5:11-13; Revelation 20:15.
Heaven: Heaven is the eternal dwelling place for all believers in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Matthew 5:12, 6:20, 25:34; John 17:24; 2 Corinthians 5:1; Hebrews 11:16; I Peter 1:4; 2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 21:21.
Hell: After living one life on earth, the unbelievers will be judged by God and sent to Hell where they will be eternally tormented with the Devil and the Fallen Angels, Matthew 25:41; Mark 9:43-48; Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 14:9-11; 20:12-15; 21:8.
Resurrection: Jesus Christ was physically resurrected from the dead in a glorified body on the third day after His death on the cross. In addition, both the saved and the lost will be resurrected; those who are saved to the resurrection of eternal life and those who are lost to the resurrection of eternal death. Luke 24:36-39; John 2:19-21; 20:26-28; 21:4; Acts 24:14-15; I Corinthians 15:13, 42-44; Philippians 3:21

Dignity: Human dignity originated from God as He created us in His own image and likeness. We believe everyone has an intrinsic value and worth which is not based on accomplishments and achievements.

Relevance: God’s word is relevant to our world today. We believe when applied to our lives, it will make us productive for ourselves and our communities. Our sermons therefore reflect this.

Dignity: Excellence starts from God. All that He created and does is excellent. God’s love for us is excellent. Therefore as a church, we seek to serve Him and the people He brings to us excellently.

The Journey: We intentionally connect with people at all stages of their journey with Jesus from those exploring a relationship with God to longtime followers of Jesus.

Life Together: We build transparent relationships, growing together and serving one another as a multi-generational and multi-ethnic church family.

Impact: We share the good news of Jesus in practical and life changing ways, personally within our circles of influence, locally with a heart for our city, and globally, with passion for the world.

Risk-Taking: We are a movement of passionate Christ followers who don’t cling to tradition or comfort but respond quickly to God’s leading, taking sacrificial leaps of faith.

Restoration:  We foster an atmosphere of love and safety, where people can discover their identity in Christ and experience healing and freedom.

Holy Habits:  We are committed to seeking God through spiritual disciplines, studying His Word, prayer, fasting, solitude, worship, giving, serving, and resting.

Whole Life Growth: We surrender to God’s complete transformation in our lives in spirit, emotions, mind, body, and our stuff.

Family: We encourage, developing God-centered marriages, having healthy family dynamics, breaking cycles of dysfunction, and opening our homes to others. We eagerly partner with other Christ following churches and ministries to glorify God, strengthen one another, impact our world, and prepare for Christ’s return.

Equipping: We empower people to fulfill their unique God-given purpose and make a difference for the Kingdom of God.

Bible-Based: We want to live by the Bible. Bible teaching permeates every program because we want to know and understand God’s Word. The Bible must be lived out in our lives because we believe the Bible is God’s Word for what we believe and do. Learning and living the Bible will be natural and normal to the new church plant.

God – Centered: We exist for God. In every person and program God is first, God is experienced and God is to be pleased. We delight to constantly have God on our minds and in our conversations. We are going to be the people and place where God is experienced. Public gathering to worship is a primary expression. Personal godly living is an equally important expression.

Holiness to the Lord: We are to live a life of visible holiness that will draw the nations to the life under God’s rule.

Centrality of the gospel: We want to be truly biblical so we need the centrality of the gospel word and the centrality of gospel community.

Spiritual-minded: We want to be spiritual minded. Everything we do will be in line with mission of seeking those that are lost. We look outward to serve non-Christians and the un-churched to reach them for Jesus Christ. This is woven into everything we do. Spiritual mindedness requires awareness of our culture and connecting to people as they are and where they are. This is done to fulfill our purpose to make more disciples for Jesus Christ.

Compassion/generosity: We want to show compassion to all most especially those in the household of faith. We aim to model love as a priority of life. We believe loving relationships should permeate every aspect of church life. This includes the concepts of love-driven ministry, ministry accomplished in teams, and relationship building.

Community Involvement: We believe that God has called the church to have an effect on the community around it. We partner with many local organizations to help the homeless, addicts, and children in the greater Ipaja areas. We also provide a service to our community through our Saturday morning food ministry. We believe that we are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus and can never be too active in our community.

Personal Outreach: We hold Matthew 28:19-20 to be essential in the lives of believers. God has called each of us to live life on Mission and “Love People to Life.” People around us come to know Christ by examining the way we live and the words we speak. God has called us to love the people with whom we come in contact. It is through our example of His love that they can find relationship with Jesus.
