Poverty is about having less than you need to thrive in the community and wider society you live in. Each person has a different perspective on the poverty level but ultimately if it’s a constant struggle to get access to the key things required to live like food and shelter, it could be an indicator of poverty.

When a person’s resources fall far below their minimum needs, including the need to take part in society. For people living in poverty, this means facing daily financial uncertainty that strips them of dignity, choices, and prevents them from being able to fully participate in society.

Poverty is so much more than going without. Poverty destroys lives. It robs people of joy, hope, and opportunities. It tears families apart, isolates those most in need of support, and leads many to believe there is no way out.

Our Campaign projects have had many accomplishments in the past.

In 2013, the House of Brethren Gospel Christian Church reached more than 4,800 people across Abesan Estate Communities, Ipaja, Lagos State to fight the root causes of hunger through distribution of foods, essential household items (kitchen sets, blankets, soap, mats, hygiene items) and health interventions, we reached the most vulnerable populations with cash assistance and child health services.
In 2014, we assisted homeless families (families and individuals in need of maintaining stable housing in their communities. We focus on meeting the basic needs of individuals and families a like experiencing homelessness through a nourishing meal, a shower, clean clothes, medical attention, and a safe place to sleep. We recognize the fundamental worth of every human being, and create a safe setting where everyone – regardless of life experience or identity – is served without judgement.
In 2014, we successfully distributed 2,116 pieces of blankets, 2,116 pieces of nylon mats, 2,116 pieces of bath towels, 2,116 pieces of wax prints and 2,116 pieces of mosquito nets, and clothes and kits to over 2,000 homes in Abesan Estate communities, Ipaja, Lagos. (This bed net distribution is significant in order to scale up access to malaria prevention within every household in Lagos State. Malaria is one of the leading killers of children and a leading cause of illnesses in Nigeria, particularly during the rainy season when the mosquito population increases, sleeping under an insecticide-treated bed net every night is the best way to prevent malaria. Bed nets put a vital barrier between people and the mosquitoes that carry malaria, particularly during the hours from dusk to dawn. Nightly use of insecticide treated bed nets prevents infections, which in turn prevents the spread of malaria. Blankets are a key component to a good night’s sleep.

In 2015, we provided access to safe clean drinking water in Abesan Estate communities, Ipaja, Nigeria who had outbreaks of water related diseases where 15 children out of 50 reported cases died.
In 2016, the House of Brethren Gospel Christian Church has also: restored access to clean water for more than 30,000 people in Lagos and Ogun states; provided monthly food aid for 880 women in Lagos State who lost their husbands in the ongoing conflict; provided 3,000 small farmers with tools; supplied fertilizer and maize seed to close to 2,000 families in Lagos State to enable them to restart their farming activities;
In 2017, we successfully provided meals on a large scale for isolated and vulnerable populations in the cities of Lagos State and Ogun State with greatest need. (Total amount spent as of July 21: $25,233)
In 2018, our focus was on feeding older adults, children and their families, as well as people who are suddenly in a situation where they no longer have a paycheck. It was another successful food distribution intervention.
Having provided education for 3,000 children to date we are now concentrating on putting between 600-1000 students through secondary school and college over the next ten years.
In 2019, we delivered educational resources and food parcels to families (over 1, 230 children in Abesan Estate communities, Ipaja, Ayobo communities and Iyana-Ipaja communities) to ensure that poor nutrition does not eclipse learning-at-home activities we supply.
In 2019, through this campaign project, we provided 7,300 households across 14 locations with basic food stuff including rice, noodles and vegetable oil households. 350 of House of Brethren Gospel Christian Church volunteers gave their time to support the packaging and distribution of the food items.

Also provided immediate relief through distribution of emergency food, emergency financial assistance, economic and rental assistance, utility assistance, emergency housing, emergency shelter, Emergency assistance to pregnant women, homelessness, poverty, loneliness, physical and mental health services, childcare, safe clean drinking water, protective clothing, Blankets, hygiene supplies, prescriptions, health care, aging citizens, medication, youth services, transportation to essential needs, emotional and spiritual care, education and logistical support
In August 2020, we carefully considered widows and those living in extreme poverty in response to the impact of COVID-19; we provided nutritional meals to poor and underserved communities and neighborhoods in Lagos State. Local governments with the highest number of COVID 19 cases are Alimosho and Eti-osa. In Aboru community of Alimosho, we distributed food items to vulnerable population affected by this pandemic. Part of the House of Brethren Gospel Christian Church activity includes sensitization on COVID 19 and general hygiene

Hygiene packs containing nose masks, sanitizers and bar soaps were distributed to pregnant women as protection against the contagious virus as well as birthing kits. Also, to tackle extreme hunger and poverty food packs containing beans, groundnut oil, seasoning cubes among others were distributed to vulnerable women in the communities mentioned. Community birth attendants received hygiene packs, birthing kits and relief packs.
In September 2021(Borehole Water System-Clean water), Construction of a solar-powered 4,000 capacity borehole water system at the car pack of mile 12 International market, Ketu, Lagos. Providing purification systems, hygienic sanitation programs, awareness, treatment units, water pumps and wells to communities in desperate need of a water source helps save lives. The sustainable water source also facilitates children to go to school instead of spending hours fetching water. We want every single person, even the hardest to reach, the most vulnerable, and the forgotten to have access to safe clean water.

So far with our COVID-19 Campaign projects, we were able to provide 80,500 masks, 37,800 paper towels and 186 gallons of antibacterial soap to the communities and public, 8690,800 individuals and families got food and meat packages, and helped 4,600 families with monetary support bringing relief to the many families in need.

Why Do We Give?

We want House of Brethren Gospel Christian Church to be known as a generous church because we serve a God who has been so generous with us. We know that we are merely stewards of all God has blessed us with, and He has called us to bless others. We believe that giving is a reflection of the work God has done in us and generosity which He has shown us. We would ask that you prayerfully consider making a recurring gift as way to partner with us in helping people who are far from God find life in Jesus.

We Give Because Jesus Invites Us To.

The Bible is clear. Galatians 6:2, NKJV says, “Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Jesus says it this way, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 19:19)”.

Generosity is a natural response when we encounter God’s love towards us. Join Our Mission, Support Our Ministry and Transform Lives

We believe that a vital part of belonging is helping to build the kingdom of God through our sacrificial giving. Making a regular financial contribution to the work of the church is not only biblical but a very practical way of standing shoulder to shoulder with the whole church and demonstrating your commitment and support. Giving sacrificially and cheerfully of our finances is part of our worship. It’s not something we do because we have to: it is something we get to do joyfully in response to God so freely blessing and saving us (2 Corinthians 8-9). We are inviting you to partner with us, and play your part, helping us resource and showcase. God is love and goodness to others. Your gift Can Change Lives. With your support, we can raise disciples for Christ who maintain a good relationship with God, who are heavenly bound and earthly blessed.’

Support the House of Brethren Gospel Christian Church Building Projects.

1. Connecting People to Christ: Your contribution helps us foster an environment where individuals can discover and deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ. Through inspiring worship services, engaging Bible studies, and meaningful fellowship, we create an atmosphere that encourages spiritual growth and personal transformation.
2. Transforming Lives: When you support our church, you play a vital role in transforming lives. Your donations enable us to provide counseling, mentorship programs, and practical assistance to those facing life’s challenges. Together, we can bring hope, healing, and restoration to those in need.
3. Reach Out to the Lost: Every donation helps us extend a helping hand to those who are searching for hope and guidance in their lives. Your support empowers us to carry the message of love and salvation to the darkest corners, touching hearts and changing lives.

How To Get Involved.

Support Financially: Your financial support is crucial in advancing our mission. Whether it is a one-time contribution or a recurring donation, every dollar/Nigeria Naira counts. Your generosity enables us to continue providing essential services, creating meaningful experiences, and spreading the love of Christ to all.
Volunteer Your Time: Join our dedicated team of volunteers and make a tangible impact in our community. By giving your time and talents, you can help us organize events, mentor individuals, and contribute to the growth and success of our programs. Together, we can be the hands and feet of Jesus.
Spread the Word: Share our story and mission with others. Your voice has the power to inspire and ignite change. Invite friends, family, and colleagues to our services, events, and outreach programs. Together, we can create a ripple effect that reaches far beyond our immediate community. Your Bible is your companion, meditate in it and you will know the truth.
Thank you for your generosity and constant support in all we do. We can’t do any of this without you!
